Ingredients
  

Lasagna Layers
  • 12 pieces Lasagna Noodles Use uncooked or fresh sheets
  • 4 cups Mozzarella Cheese For creamy texture
  • ½ cup Parmesan Cheese For a golden top
Meat Sauce
  • ½ lb Ground Beef Hearty layer
  • ½ lb Italian Sausage Can substitute with turkey
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion Diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 36 oz Pasta Sauce Increase to 48 oz for saucier lasagna
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato Paste To thicken sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
  • ¾ teaspoon Salt Adjust to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon Black Pepper
Cheese Filling
  • 2 cups Ricotta Cheese Can substitute with cottage cheese
  • ¼ cup Fresh Parsley Chopped
  • 1 large Egg Beaten
Optional Toppings
  • to taste Extra Mozzarella and Parmesan Cheese For topping

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Boil salted water in a large pot and cook lasagna noodles until al dente, then drain and rinse.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté ground beef, Italian sausage, diced onion, and minced garlic for 5-7 minutes until browned.
  3. Stir in pasta sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the cheese filling ingredients: mozzarella, Parmesan, ricotta, parsley, beaten egg, and salt.
  5. Spread 1 cup of meat sauce in a baking dish, layer 4 noodles, half the cheese mixture, and another cup of sauce. Repeat layers and finish with noodles and remaining sauce.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover, add remaining cheese, and bake for another 15 minutes until bubbly.
  7. Let it rest for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, rest the lasagna for 15 minutes after baking to help it set. You can also make it ahead of time and refrigerate overnight before baking.
