Step-by-Step Instructions for Carmelitas
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch pan with parchment paper and grease lightly.
- Melt 1 cup of unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over low heat and stir in 1 cup of brown sugar until combined.
- Add 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 2 cups of rolled oats, and 1 teaspoon of baking soda, mixing until a crumbly dough forms.
- Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of the lined pan and bake for 10 minutes until slightly golden.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of chocolate chips over the warm base, then drizzle 1 cup of caramel sauce over the chips.
- Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the caramel layer to cover as much as possible.
- Return to the oven and bake for 18-22 minutes until the top is golden brown and edges are set.
- Cool at room temperature for 2-3 hours before slicing to maintain structure.

Notes
For added flavor, consider using flaky sea salt before baking. Store in an airtight container; can also be frozen for longer storage.
