Casserole Preparation
- Steam or blanch the broccoli florets until bright green and tender, about 3–5 minutes. Drain well and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, sugar, and salt. Cook for 15–20 minutes until onions turn golden brown and fragrant.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the caramelized onions, broccoli, cheddar cheese, cream, and vegetable broth. Stir gently until well combined.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish and pour in the broccoli mixture, spreading it out evenly.
- Sprinkle a layer of fried onions on top. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until bubbly and the top is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Serve warm alongside crusty bread.
