Ingredients

For the Salad
  • 2 cups Fresh Strawberries sliced
  • 4 cups Romaine Lettuce chopped
  • 1/2 cup Slivered Almonds can substitute with pecans or walnuts
  • 1/4 cup Red Onion sliced
For the Dressing
  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise or Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream or a dairy-free alternative
  • 2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar or lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar can reduce or substitute
  • 2 tablespoons Milk or unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon Poppy Seeds optional

Equipment

  • small heavy skillet
  • Large Bowl
  • Small bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Step 1: Prepare the Candied Almonds. In a small heavy skillet, heat sugar over medium-low flame, stirring gently for about 10 minutes until it melts and turns a rich caramel color. Once melted, quickly stir in the slivered almonds to coat them evenly. Pour the mixture onto a sheet of foil, spreading it out to cool completely before breaking it into pieces.
  2. Step 2: Mix the Salad Greens. In a large bowl, combine the crisp romaine lettuce, sliced red onion, and vibrant fresh strawberries. Toss these ingredients gently.
  3. Step 3: Whisk Together the Dressing. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, and milk until smooth. Then stir in apple cider vinegar, sugar, and poppy seeds.
  4. Step 4: Combine Salad and Dressing. Drizzle the dressing over the salad ingredients and gently toss until coated.
  5. Step 5: Add the Candied Almonds. Just before serving, break the cooled candied almonds into smaller pieces and sprinkle them over the salad.
