Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast in a bowl. Let sit until foamy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, eggs, melted butter, sugar, lemon zest, and almond extract.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. If sticky, add more flour one tablespoon at a time until manageable.
  5. Knead the dough for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  7. Punch down the dough, divide into two portions, and roll into strips. Braid them together.
  8. Insert raw eggs into the braids and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F. Brush dough with egg wash and bake for about 20 minutes until golden.
  10. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before serving.
