Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round baking pans and line with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: eggs, buttermilk, coffee, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet mixture into the well of the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Let the cakes cool in pans for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- For the frosting, beat together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until smooth.
- Layer the frosting between the cooled cakes and apply the remaining on top.
- Prepare the chocolate frosting by melting butter, whisking in cocoa powder and water, then adding powdered sugar until smooth.
- Pour chocolate frosting over the cake and enjoy!
