For the Meat Sauce
  • 1 pound Ground Beef or ground turkey for lighter option
  • 1 pound Italian Sausage or crumbled mushrooms for a vegetarian option
  • 1 medium Onion yellow onion works best
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 4 cups Marinara Sauce your favorite jarred version or homemade
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 1 tablespoon Italian Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
For the Creamy Layer
  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese at room temperature
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 cup Cottage Cheese or ricotta for a denser texture
  • 2 tablespoons Chives chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Parsley chopped
For Assembly
  • 12 ounces Lasagna Noodles oven-ready recommended
  • 3 cups Mozzarella Cheese shredded
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
  • 2 tablespoons Butter for topping before baking

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage until fully cooked, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 4-5 minutes, then stir in minced garlic.
  4. Add marinara sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper; let simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Combine cream cheese, sour cream, and cottage cheese in a mixing bowl; blend until smooth, then stir in chopped chives and parsley.
  6. Layer the lasagna: spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the dish, top with noodles, half the cream cheese mixture, and 1/3 of the mozzarella and cheddar.
  7. Repeat layers and finish with meat sauce and remaining cheeses on top.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is golden.
  9. Let it rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
