Step-by-Step Instructions for Sourdough Strawberry Rolls
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease your baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan, melt a tablespoon of butter, add quartered strawberries, sprinkle with cornstarch, and mash to desired consistency. Stir in brown sugar and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add sourdough starter, honey or maple syrup, melted butter, and warm water. Mix until combined and knead for 2-3 minutes.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle. Spread the cooled strawberry filling over the dough, leaving a 1/4-inch edge.
  5. Starting from the long side, roll the dough tightly into a log, seal the edges, and slice into rolls 1 to 1.5 inches thick. Place in the greased dish.
  6. Bake for 25-35 minutes until golden brown and edges are crisp.
  7. Prepare frosting by whisking together softened cream cheese and melted butter, then gradually add powdered sugar and cream until smooth.
