  • 1/2 cup Water For creating syrup base
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar Adjust sweetness to taste
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch Thickening agent
  • 2 tablespoons Cold Water To mix with cornstarch
  • 1/2 tablespoon Lemon Juice Freshly squeezed for brightness
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract For a warm flavor

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, mix the cherries, water, and brown sugar over medium-high heat. Stir until it heats up and boils, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Combine cornstarch with cold water in a small bowl and stir until smooth. Once the cherry mixture boils, pour the cornstarch mixture in while stirring.
  3. Reduce heat to simmer and mash the cherries for 3-4 minutes until desired texture is reached.
  4. Remove from heat and add lemon juice and vanilla extract, stirring to combine.
  5. Let cool slightly, then serve over pancakes or store in an airtight container.
