  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter the inside of an 8-inch square baking dish.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine milk, granulated sugar, butter, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until melted and dissolved, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Prepare bread by cutting it into bite-sized cubes and place evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Whisk the eggs in a bowl, then mix the custard into the eggs and add vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over bread cubes and gently press down to soak. Let it rest for 20-30 minutes.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and set. Test doneness with a knife.
  7. In another saucepan, combine milk, cream, brown sugar, and butter over medium heat to make the sauce.
  8. Whisk cornstarch with cold water or bourbon, mix into sauce, and stir until thickened.
  9. Serve by cutting the pudding and drizzling sauce over each piece.
