Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Rinse and sort the dry Great Northern beans, removing any debris. Soak overnight or use the rapid soak method by boiling for one hour.
  2. Drain the beans, transfer to a large pot, cover with fresh water, and boil over medium heat. Simmer for about 45 minutes until tender but not fully cooked.
  3. In the slow cooker, combine bourbon, maple syrup, barbecue sauce, light brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, molasses, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Whisk until smooth.
  4. Add drained beans to the slow cooker with the marinade and stir gently. Cover and cook on low for 12 hours or high for 4 hours.
  5. Check for doneness after cooking; beans should be tender with a thick sauce. Continue cooking in 30-minute increments if needed.
